1st Baptist to present The Song of Heaven
The music ministry of First Baptist Church in Russellville will present The Song of Heaven at 6:15 p.m. Sunday. The multi-media presentation will feature the First Baptist Festival Choir and Orchestra, as well as the handbell choir and combined childrens choirs. Admission is free. Everyone is invited to this special celebration. The church is located at 200 S. Denver Ave.
Account opened for hospitalized man
An account has been opened for the medical expenses of Aaron Felkins at Liberty Bank.
Felkins, 49, of the Atkins area suffered a stroke Nov. 26 while deer hunting. He was a dump truck driver but had recently been laid off.
He and calories in tuna salad his wife, Stephanie, have a son, A.J., 17, a student at Hector High School.
Felkins is in the intensive care unit at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock.
Girl Scouts accepting donations for Angel Kids
The Girl Scout Trefoil Service Unit in Russellville will be accepting donations for its Angel Kids program. The program assists families in need by request through the local schools and the Girl Scout unit. Last year 14 families were assisted and this year the service unit would like to increase that number. Donations of canned or boxed food, clothes and thai chicken salad new toys may be dropped off at the Girl Scout Service Unit at 104 E. 10th St. The drop-off schedule is from 6-7 p.m. every Monday and Friday through Dec. 19.
Toys for Kids fund-raiser today
Margarets Hair Academy at 502 Tyler Road is holding a fund-raiser for Toys for Kids from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. The academy will offer hair color, highlighting, texture, haircuts, styles, facial waxing, manicures, pedicures and professional retail products with 100 percent of all revenue donated to Toys For Kids which helps underprivileged children of the area. In addition, the students will provide soft drinks, hamburger and hot dogs for a donation. Drawings will be held throughout the day for hair care products and appliances.
Kiwanis Club hosting annual nut drive
The Russellville Kiwanis Club is hosting its annual nut sales drive. A gallon of gourmet mixed nuts or chocolate covered nuts in a decorative tin are $20 each. Proceeds will be used for Kiwanis projects that help children in the Arkansas River Valley. To purchase nuts, prawn salad recipe call Tom Sullivan at 857-3939 or Alvin Hill at 967-6765.
Atkins area named to historic register
The State Review Board of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program nominated 12 properties in 10 Arkansas counties including the Little Rock to Cantonment Gibson Road-Fourth Street Segment at Atkins to the National Register of Historic Places when it met Wednesday in Little Rock.
The Atkins segment of the road was built in 1828. It is one of few surviving segments of the Military Road west of Little Rock that was traversed in Arkansas by the Bell Detachment during the Cherokee Removal and retains its integrity as a 19th century roadbed.
Cattlemens Association to meet today
The Pope County Cattlemens Association meets at 6 p.m. today in the fellowship hall of Russellville First Assembly of God Church for its annual Christmas party. Meat and bread will be furnished by the association. Members are asked to take a side dish vegetable, salad and/or dessert. All members and their families are invited to attend. A visit from Santa is expected.
There will be a drawing for the PCCA Scholarship fund-raiser, a heifer or $500 in cashduring the meeting. Tickets will be available for $1 each or six for $5. The heifer was donated by Horace Beavers of R&H Farms.
Russellville Rec and Parks meeting canceled
The Russellville RecreationParks Commission meeting scheduled for Dec. 10 has been canceled. The next meeting will be Jan. 14.
