Too much, too soon
Let s get this straight, it s not something that usually happens to us. Other couples, maybe, but not us. We can usually keep going for ages, shovelling food down our gullets, but Flipside Burger Bar put a quick halt to our lusty ways. My dining companion and I were only halfway through our burgers when we exchanged a look of mingled pleasure and pain, a look that said: It s too good to stop and too hard to keep going. Our tastebuds were dancing, but our jaws were aching from the effort of chewing and our bellies were fit to burst.
Falling short
I took a quick scout around this effortlessly cool burger joint with its communal wood table, window seats, chock-a-block outdoor tables, funky dangling lights and very Freo-esque exposed limestone wall, and noticed that even tiny waiflike diners were hoeing into their burgers with two hands. My dining partner and I, when confronted with our colossal burgers, had begged for cutlery to cut the monsters in half. With one half finished we were struggling and feeling decidedly inadequate. But seeing that we were obviously the weakest link we vowed to keep going.
All aboard
Don t get me wrong: our burgers were delicious and calories in chicken cesar salad that s why, with a gulp, we decided to soldier on. My delicious beast was dubbed the Blue Train. It featured 150g of prime beef with blue cheese, salad, tomato relish and oriental salad recipe mayo. The quantity of blue cheese was just right, tasty but not overpoweringly so. My partner opted for a chicken burger featuring a free-range chicken breast, fresh pear and salad diet parmesan, rocket, salad, tomato relishmayo. The bowl of chips lay virtually untouched, as there was simply no room at the inn. The few I nibbled on were tasty. The accompanying aioli was stock-standard, arriving in a small plastic tub, but what did it matter when the burgers were so divine? When we return we will take a hangover with us, as Flipside is surely the cure the human race has been looking for.
